Oakland Volleyball Takes Down NDSU in Four Sets|

FARGO, N.D. - Meghan Bray recorded 15 kills and 17 digs and Taylor Humm finished with 13 kills and 16 digs as the Oakland volleyball team (14-11, 7-6 Summit) defeated North Dakota State (10-15, 6-7 Summit) in four sets Saturday night in Breston Bunker Fieldhouse. The Golden Grizzlies won with set scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-19.
"This was a huge win for our program," said head coach Rob Beam. "North Dakota State is the benchmark of excellence in The Summit League and getting a win on the road for the first time is another great moment for this team. Everyone contributed at a high level for this win."
The victory marks only the second time Oakland has beaten North Dakota State and it is the first time in Fargo. Alli Kirk recorded a match-high 24 digs and Brittany Holbrook had 11 kills and three blocks. Ciara Schultz led the team with 26 assists while adding five kills and Alissa Valentine had 16 assists.
The Bison jumped out early in the opening set as they used a five-point run to lead 10-5. NDSU continued to use the momentum as they led by as many as six to win 25-19. OU would fight back leading 10-5 in the second set but the Bison battled to tie the game late at 21-21. Oakland would win the last four points with with back-to-back kills by Amanda Baker and Schultz, a service ace by Kirk, and a Schultz kill tied the match with a 25-21 set victory.
The third set was tight as OU led for most of the set but could only manage a four-point lead with the score 19-15. NDSU would win three straight points to make the score 19-18, but Oakland won six out of the next seven points behind two Holbrook kills and a Humm service ace to win 25-19.
The final set was led early by the Bison but the Golden Grizzlies would tie the score at 10-10. OU would not trail again as they won seven out of eight points as Allia Knight had two kills and Mary Grassano had two service aces during the run to lead 21-15 and use the momentum to win the match with a 25-19 set victory.
Oakland will return to the Athletics Center O'rena on Friday for the final home match of the year as they take on Omaha Friday starting at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
