DETROIT -- With singles wins from Tamara Blum and Brittany Baxter, the Oakland women's tennis team fell to Detroit, 6-2, on Saturday in the Detroit Invitational at the Titan Tennis Complex. Due to inclement weather, the teams played only one of the two scheduled dual matches.

"I thought we came out today and played pretty good doubles ," said head coach Heather Redshaw. "I thought we had some good things going on the court in doubles, but we definitely need to work on our singles play."

Blum won in three sets, clinching the victory with a 10-3 win in a super-set tiebreaker. Blum dropped the first set 6-3, but reversed that score for a 6-3 second-set win.  Baxter played a seventh singles match against Emily Aden, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.

The Golden Grizzlies also picked up a win in doubles, as Karine Celis and Grace Keating won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. The doubles point went to the very end, with Oakland's scrappy No. 3 doubles team of Cam Sabourin and Juliana Guevarabattling in a 9-7 loss.

Sabourin also played a tight, three-set match at No. 4 singles, winning 6-4 in the second set to force a super-set tiebreaker. In a back-and-forth set, Sabourin eventually fell 12-10.

The Golden Grizzlies dropped the remaining singles matches in straight sets, battling windy conditions that impacted the play of both teams.

Oakland will be back in action on Friday in Dayton, Ohio at the Wright State Invitational.
