Oakland Wraps Up Day One of DePauw Invitational
Sept. 15, 2012 GREENCASTLE,Ind.-- Emily Raidt went unbeaten in both singles and doubles play as Oakland completed day one action at the DePauw Invitational on Saturday. The Golden Grizzlies played flighted round-robin matches against Bulter, University of Indianapolis and DePauw. "Overall I felt like it was a good day for our team," said Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw. "We looked a little nervous, which can be expected with many of these young players seeing their first collegiate action. I think we'll continue to improve and build on the good start today." Playing in the No. 4 flight for singles on Saturday, Raidt won 6-2, 6-1 against Angelina Qin of Butler, before beating DePauw's Kaitlin Pickrel in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. She partnered with Tamara Blum to win in the No. 1 doubles fight, 8-3, over the top doubles pairing from University of Indianapolis. Blum split a pair of matches in the No. 1 singles flight, getting a win over Meg Crowley from DePauw 6-3, 6-1. Oakland also split singles matches in the No. 5 and No. 6 flights. Juliana Guevara earned her first collegiate win 6-4, 6-1 against Laura Shull from Butler, while Brittany Baxter won her match 6-1, 6-0 over Butler's Sienne Reuter. Oakland was very close in all three matches in the doubles flight with Cam Sabourin and Grace Keating falling 9-7 in the No. 2 flight, while Baxter and Guevara lost 8-4 in the No. 3 flight against teams from UI.
