DETROIT - Brittany Baxterwon her singles match, as the Oakland women's tennis team (1-9) lost, 8-1, to Wayne State on Tuesday at the Multi-Purpose Facility. It was the final match for the Golden Grizzlies before the start of Summit League play.

"We need to take the feeling from today's match and turn it into a positive as we head into the weekend," said Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw. "We had some really good points, but Wayne State is a good team."

Baxter defeated Jessica Kruczek 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles for Oakland's only win of the day. Grace Keatingalso played a tough match with Yahsha Moore at No. 2 singles, dropping the first set in a tiebreaker 6-3, before eventually falling 7-6, 6-0.

Wayne State's Tanya Joseph beat Caryn Kimmel6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. The Warriors won the remaining singles matches 6-0, 6-1. In doubles play, Oakland fell 8-2 at both the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, while suffering an 8-1 defeat at No. 3 doubles.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to action on Thursday with a pair of league matches in Fort Wayne, Ind. Oakland will play UMKC in a morning match and South Dakota State in an evening match. The locations and times for the matches will be based on weather conditions being suitable to permit outdoor play.
