KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Leah DiCristofaro had a double and Megan McQueen added a pinch-hit single, while Brittany Doyle threw a complete game as the Oakland softball team (8-38, 5-19) fell in the series finale of a Summit League series to UMKC (22-27, 10-11), 3-0, at Missouri 3&2 Field on Sunday.

"It is very frustrating when you go through an entire season and are unable to execute in crunch time," said head coach LaDonia Hughes. "I know this was not the year this senior class expected but we will look to get them a pair of wins to send them off on Tuesday."

Doyle (5-17) suffered the loss throwing 6.0 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on only three hits and struck out two batters. UMKC's Deanna Friese (11-14) earned her second win of the weekend, throwing a complete-game shutout, giving up four hits and struck out eight batters.

Oakland had an early scoring chance in the second inning as DiCristofaro led off with a double down the left-field line, but the OU offense was unable to move her around as the score remained tied 0-0.

UMKC scored first in the third inning as Kaelene Curry and Megan Ussary each had an RBI-single to make the score 2-0. UMKC added another run in the fifth inning as Ussary drove in her second run of the game, grounding out to second base, scoring Bri Wyatt from third base.

Oakland looked to come back in the sixth inning as Jackie Kisman singled to the third baseman and DiCristofaro reached base on a throwing error by Friese with two outs. Friese was able to induce a groundball to the next batter as UMKC cut down the runner at third to end the threat.

The Golden Grizzlies made another push in the final inning as McQueen singled up the middle after a Brittany Prior walk to put runners at first and second base. After a strikeout, Erin Galloway hit a line drive that looked like it would drive in the first OU run of the game, but a good play by the Kangaroos centerfielder ended the comeback effort for a final score of 3-0.

Oakland will play its final doubleheader of the season on Tuesday against Western Ontario at the OU Softball Field starting at 2 p.m. The Golden Grizzlies will celebrate senior day as it will be the final games for seniors DiCristofaro, Doyle, Kelsey Krych and Colleen Zimmerman.
