Glenn MacDonald is set to begin his seventh season as a part of the Oakland softball program and his third as the squad's head coach. MacDonald started with the program in the summer of 2001 as an assistant and had a hand in the Golden Grizzlies' back-to-back Mid-Con Championships in 2002 and '03.

MacDonald led the Golden Grizzlies to the Mid-Con Championship game in 2007, falling to Southern Utah, 5-1. Oakland made its second consecutive trip to the tournament under his guidance and posted a 10-8 mark in the league, finishing the regular season in third place. The Grizzlies finished the year with an overall mark of 21-36 and had three players garner all-conference recognition in Jessica Granger (first team), Julie Owen (second team) and Katie Dreyer (second team).

Oakland continued to play a difficult non-conference schedule under MacDonald's tutelage. The Golden Grizzlies faced four nationally-ranked teams, including then-No. 1 Tennessee, three of which finished the year ranked in the final top 25 poll (No. 2 Tennessee, No. 19 Georgia Tech, No. 23 Ohio State).

In his first season as the Golden Grizzly head coach MacDonald led the squad back to the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament for the first time in two years and was named the conference Coach of the Year for his accomplishment. He guided OU to a record of 28-31 overall and a 12-12 mark in the Mid-Con, good for a fourth-place finish.

MacDonald came to OU from Academy of the Sacred Heart where he was named Coach of the Year for two straight seasons and won two consecutive Catholic League championships. The Farmington Hills resident led Sacred Heart to its best seasons ever with a 48-10 league record over three years. MacDonald finished with a 59-28 mark.

He is married to the former Dorothy Woolley, have five sons and two daughters, and 14 grand children.
