ROCHESTER, Mich. - Two first-half goals by Sarah Reynolds and Kyla Kellermann and another staunch effort by the Oakland defense resulted in a 2-0 shutout victory for the Golden Grizzlies' women's soccer team over Youngstown State Saturday evening at OU Soccer Field. The win pushes Oakland to 6-7-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the Horizon League, while the Penguins fall to 3-9-1, 1-2-0.

Oakland had its foot on the gas all night, rattling off 29 shots, including 14 shots on goal. On the second of seven corner kicks on the night for the Golden Grizzlies, Oakland got on the board in the 14th minute when Alice Palmer's corner on the left side found the head of Reynolds for her second goal of the season.

Less than five minutes later Oakland was on the board again, this time with a combination play by Kellermann and Rachel DeLuca. Kellermann worked a give-and-go on the right side with Deluca to give Kellermann a close-range look. Kellermann converted for her fourth goal of the season and second in as many games.

Although Oakland out-shot Youngstown State 19-3 in the second half, the Golden Grizzlies did not add to their lead for the remainder of the game. Meghan Reynolds led Oakland with seven shots, including five strikes on frame.

Oakland goalkeeper Payj O'Shea recorded her second shutout of the week with three saves to her credit. Youngstown State's defense was credited with 12 saves.

Along with the team's on-field success, the Golden Grizzlies raised over $500 with their breast cancer awareness initiative at the game. The players adorned pink wristbands, laces and headbands to help raise awareness for breast cancer research; the OU Soccer Field was also marked with pink lines and ribbons to commemorate the team's fundraising effort.

Oakland concludes its current three-game home stand Saturday, Oct. 19 when the Golden Grizzlies entertain Detroit for a 7 p.m. contest.
