YPSILANTI, Mich. - Kyla Kellermann and Marlen Knoph had a goal and an assist each as Oakland played to a 3-3 draw with Eastern Michigan on Sunday at Scicluna Field. The Golden Grizzlies outshot the Eagles 26-11.
"The team did a very good job for quite a few segments of the game," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "We were phenomenal at times, but it has to be for 90 minutes and we have to get everyone contributing all the time. Despite some missteps, we still got a draw out of it and we're still undefeated."
After an early goal for EMU, Kyla Kellermann scored to even the game in the12th minute. Abigail Haelewyn played a quick pass to Marlen Knoph who slipped the ball to Kellermann for the one-time finish. It was the fourth goal of the season for Kellermann who leads the Golden Grizzlies in scoring.
In the 20th minute it was Kellermann who slotted the ball to Knoph for a goal put OU in front 2-1. Oakland continued to apply pressure in the first half and Stephanie Pilarski unleashed a long-range effort in the 25th minute that went in for a 3-1 lead. The Golden Grizzlies outshot EMU 13-2 in the first half, but only led 3-2 at the intermission.
EMU snatched a goal back late in the first half when Bianca Rossi found space for a breakaway goal. Rossi then tied the match in the 54th minute when she connected with a volley that looped into the back of the net.
Oakland goalkeeper Payj O'Shea finished the match with four saves. She made a breakaway save late in regulation to force extra time and then had an outstanding diving save with five minutes to play in the second overtime to keep the score level. Jenna O'Dell made eight saves for EMU.
Oakland returns to action on Sunday, hosting Loyola (Md.) at the OU Soccer Field at 11:30 a.m.
