Oakland Set to Host Summit League Women's Golf Championship

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland University women's golf team will serve as host of the 2009 Summit League Women's Golf Championship this Monday and Tuesday, April 20-21, at Katke-Cousins Golf Course on the campus of OU. The tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. with tee times on Monday morning.

The entire event is free admission and spectators can park in the regular parking lot in front of the clubhouse. Live stats will run on golfstat.com.

The Golden Grizzlies are seeded third by the golf rankings, behind preseason favorite Oral Roberts and UMKC.

Junior Austin McDermaid posted her fist top-10 finish of the season in OU's last tournament and earned all-league honors last year with an eighth-place finish. McDermaid carries a stroke average of 80.83 heading into the championship.

Senior Nikki Swan is second on the team with a scoring average of 82.72. Her best finish of the spring came at the Lady Moc Intercollegiate, posting a tie for 17th-place finish (85).

Joining McDermaid and Swan in the lineup will be juniors Lauren Gardner (86.55) and Laura Kwiatkowski (85.33), along with freshman Liz Ecker (84.83).
