OU's Komma Leads Golden Grizzlies on Day One of Mary Fossum Invitational Sept. 15, 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Kassandra Komma tallied a score of 153 (77-76/+9) and Alanna Gerber finished with a 155 (80-75/+11) to lead the Oakland women's golf team on day one of the Mary Fossum Invitational on Saturday at Forest Akers West golf course. The Golden Grizzlies shot 633 (318-315/+57) and currently stand in 14th place. "We got off to a slow start this morning, then held it together to finish strong the first round," said OU coach Russ Cunningham. "Exactly the opposite in the afternoon with great starts from Alanna (Gerber) and Kassy (Kassandra Komma) with each at par or better until the final five holes of the second round. "Considering the course is playing over 6,300 yards and we have improved each of our first five rounds this year, we are all looking forward to continuing the trend tomorrow morning." Komma currently stands in a tie for 26th place, while Gerber stands in a tie for 37th place after day one. Oakland shot a season-low 315 in the second round. No. 22 Purdue posted an overall score of 2-over-par (578) to take the 36-hole lead over tournament host Michigan State (586). There is a three-way tie in first place as Krista Puisite (Texas State), Paula Reto (Purdue) and Kishi Sinha (Purdue) each shot 2-under-par (142) to lead the pack. The third and final round will be on Sunday and can be followed via live stats at golfstat.com. #FightOakland
