ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland's Sam Brown has been promoted to Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning, announced by Director of Athletics Tracy Huth on Friday. Brown, a football standout at Virginia Military Institute from 2000-03, will handle the strength and conditioning programs for men's and women's basketball, while assisting with the day-to-day operations of the unit.

"Sam came to Oakland this past summer to assist our strength and conditioning program," said Huth. "His experiences at VMI as a student-athlete, Ohio and Virginia Tech as a strength coach will help him develop a top-level program for our men's and women's basketball teams, and many of our student-athletes."

Brown has served the last six months in the Oakland strength and conditioning program. He primarily worked with the men's and women's track and field teams, along with softball. He came to OU from Ohio University where he worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for football, baseball, wrestling, softball and hockey from 2009-11.

Prior to Ohio, Brown served as a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech and earned his master's degree in health and physical education in May 2009. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology in May 2005 from VMI and became the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports from 2004-07.

"I have had the pleasure of working with Sam over the past two semesters," said Director of Strength and Conditioning Todd Wohlfeil. "Sam's military background is apparent in his coaching style. His strength and conditioning programs are challenging both physically and mentally. He demands, and will accept, nothing but the best from his student-athletes."
