One of the most prolific three-point shooters in Oakland women's basketball history, Deanna Richard was one of the top players in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the mid-90s for OU. As a senior she became Oakland's eighth All-American in women's basketball and was named the GLIAC Player of the Year.

Richard was a member of three teams that qualified for NCAA Tournament play and was a key component to the 1995 squad that reached the Elite Eight in the Division II Tournament. She finished her career with 1,333 points, becoming the 13th player at OU to reach the 1,000-point mark. A threat from behind the three-point line, she set school records for three-point field goals in a season and career as well as three-point attempts in a game and finished her career among the school's all-time leaders in three-point shooting percentage.

Richard went on to play professionally in Portugal where she helped lead her team to a conference championship, averaging over 27 points and 11 rebounds per game. A native of Clarksville, Michigan, Richard graduated from Oakland in 1996 with a degree in exercise science. Richard has served as an assistant coach at Wayne State and Ferris State before becoming the head coach at Olivet College.
