Oakland Takes Unbeaten League Record to Fort Wayne Oct. 19, 2012
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Summit League-leading Oakland (9-5, 4-0) travels to play Fort Wayne (2-12-1, 1-2-1) on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Golden Grizzlies are unbeaten in league matches this season.
OAKLAND SOCCER NOTES ▪ The Golden Grizzlies suffered their first home loss of the season to Michigan State 1-0 in the team's last outing ▪ OU is seeking a ninth Summit League regular season championship ▪ Oakland has outscored Summit League opponents 16-2 over the first four matches of the season ▪ Oakland ranks second in the nation in total points and is fourth in the NCAA in scoring offense, total goals and total assists ▪ Kyle Bethel leads the nation in total assists (10) and assists per-match (0.77) he also ranks 12th in the NCAA in total points and 17th in points per-match ▪ Bethel was named Summit League Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after scoring twice in the win over UMKC ▪ The Black and Gold boast a perfect 6-0 record at home this season ▪ The Golden Grizzlies rank No. 7 in the latest NSCAA Midwest Regional Poll and are ranked No. 47 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Ranking ▪ Oakland is coming off back-to-back shutout wins over Detroit (4-0) and IUPUI (3-0) and ranks No. 11 in the nation with a .550 shutout percentage ▪ Bethel had a goal and four assists last week to move into a tie for The Summit League lead in points with 18 this season ▪ Goalkeeper Eliott Tarney improved to 2-0 as a starter with a win against UMKC ▪ Scott Messer started the season with 275:27 minutes of scoreless action in the nets ▪ Bethel leads OU with six goals this year, while Miche'le Lipar and Joey Tinnion both have five goals and are tied for 95th in the NCAA for total goals. ▪ Dating back to the previous season, the Golden Grizzlies went 356:30 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal ▪ Messer, Dudley, Bethel, Timm and Lipari have all been named Summit League Player of the Week by the league office this season ▪ The Black and Gold announced captains for this season as John Timm, Nick Kristock and Lucas Diener ▪ Oakland has won 11 Summit League Championships during its first thirteen years in The Summit League and advanced to five NCAA Tournaments. #FightOakland
