Oakland Hosts Vermont in Sunday Showdown Sept. 1, 2012
ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The unbeaten Oakland men's soccer team (2-0) will host Vermont (1-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Golden Grizzlies are coming off an exciting overtime win against Cleveland State.
OAKLAND SOCCER NOTES ▪ Johnny Dreshaj converted a penalty just 53 seconds into overtime to secure a 1-0 victory for Oakland over Cleveland State on Friday ▪ Oakland picked up its 55th win in program history at the OU Soccer Field. The Golden Grizzlies are 55-26-13 alltime at their current home ground ▪ The goal against Vermont was the seventh of his career for the senior Dreshaj ▪ After earning back-to-back shutouts, Scott Messer's scoreless streak currently stands at over 181 minutes for the season ▪ The Black and Gold announced captains for this season as John Timm, Nick Kristock and Lucas Diener ▪ After scoring two goals in 38 seconds, including the match-winner against New Hampshire, Miche'le ▪ The Golden Grizzlies posted a 2-0-1 record during the preseason and never failed to score under two goals in a match ▪ Four Oakland players were recognized by CollegeSportsMadness.com for preseason all-league honors. John Timm was named to the first team, while Johnny Dreshaj and Jeff Cheslik earned second team honors. Jacob Vanderlaan was named Preseason Freshman of the Year. ▪ Oakland has won 11 Summit League Championships during its first three years in The Summit League and advanced to five NCAA Tournaments.
