EAST LANSING, Mich. - Matt Dudley had two shots on goal and Sean Lewis made four saves but it was not enough as the Oakland men's soccer team (5-3-5) fell to No. 14 Michigan State (8-1-2), 3-0, Wednesday at DeMartin Soccer Complex. The Spartans outshot the Golden Grizzlies 20-9.

"Hats off to Michigan State as they are a very complete, well-coached team that will be there in the end as they exposed us from the very start of the game and just outclassed us in all aspects of the game," said coach Eric Pogue. "Secondly, I take full responsibility for our lack or preparation, it is my job to get these young men prepared to go to battle against a top class team like MSU, and its very obvious that I fell short in that category today."

MSU would get on the board early in the first half as Jay Chapman would take a strike from the left side by Tim Kreutz and score from one yard out 13 seconds into the start of the match. Kreutz would push the first-half lead to 2-0 as he took a shot from inside one yard, from Fatai Alashe, and put it past Lewis in the 11th minute.

Kreutz would score his second goal of the match in the 48th minute as he took a shot from the right side, just inside the penalty box for the final score of 3-0.

Joey Tinnion led Oakland with three shots, one on goal, while Shawn Claud Lawson added a shot on goal. Michigan State's Zach Bennett finished the match with four saves, recording his seventh shutout of the season.

"What I can promise is that we will all learn from today, starting tomorrow morning, and it will make us a better team long term for an important stretch run of conference games," added Pogue. "All our goals are still achievable and we're very confident in these young men that they will respond to the challenge."

The Golden Grizzlies will be in action next week when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Big Ten opponent Ohio State in a non-conference match Wednesday Oct. 23 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium starting at 7 p.m.
