ROCHESTER, Mich. - Miche'le Lipari scored a pair of goals to lead Oakland (1-0) to a 3-0 win over New Hampshire (0-1) in the season opener on Friday at the OU Soccer Field. The two goals from Lipari were just 38 seconds apart.

"Starting off with a win is always positive," said head coach Eric Pogue. "I think we played pretty well. We were strong defensively and Scott [Messer] made some nice saves in goal. Once we figured things out we had some nice attacking pieces that allowed us to get some goals."

The first goal of the season came in the 34th minute when Lipari got on the end of a low cross from Kyle Bethel and redirected the ball across goal and inside the far post. He followed that effort with a second goal less than a minute later when he slotted home a low cross from Sean Magee. The two goals equaled Lipari's season total from last season.

In the second half, Oakland continued to apply the pressure and it paid off with a set-piece goal from Johnny Dreshaj in the 58th minute. Magee sent in a waist-high corner kick that fell to Dreshaj, who hit a half-volley that rocketed into the back of the net. It was the second assist of the game for Magee.

Goalkeeper Scott Messer came through with a fingertip save in 77th minute to preserve the team's first shutout of the season. Messer finished the match with five saves.

The two teams both managed 16 shots, but it was clinical finishing and tough defending from Oakland that made the difference in the match. The Golden Grizzlies scored three goals from five shots on goal, while the OU defenders showed a willingness to put their on the line, blocking five shots.

Oakland returns to the OU Soccer Field on Friday to host Cleveland State at 5:30 p.m.
