Daniel Weinerth was regarded as the anchor of the Golden Grizzlies defense during his four years at Oakland. The Rochester Adams High School graduate was a rugged defender that was always called upon to shadow the opposing team's top scorer and he was consistently successful in dominating his opponent.

Weinerth was considered one of the top defenders in the country in Division II during his four-year career at Oakland. OU's overall record during Weinerth's four-year career was 59-17-10. The Oakland defense only allowed its opponents to score 80 goals in those four years while the OU offense totaled 220.

Oakland played in the NCAA tournament all four years in his career. OU reached the semi-finals in 1988, the first round in 1989, the quarterfinals in 1990 and the first round again in 1991. Weinerth, the three-time team captain (1989-91), was tabbed an all-American in 1991. He is one of only 11 players in the history of OU soccer to earn this honor.

Weinerth earned all-Mideast Region honors in both 1990 and 1991 and he received the Defensive MVP of the Marriott Soccer Classic both years.

Weinerth graduated from Oakland University with a degree in political science. Weinerth, his wife Leanne, and their three-year-old son Nicholas reside in Royal Oak, where Daniel works in landscape and construction.
