Gray Haizel at the 2002 Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony Gray Haizel was Oakland's firstever two-time soccer All-American, earning the honor in both 1985 and 1986. In his three-year career at OU, he was tabbed All-Region all three years and in 1986 he was a participant in the Senior Bowl. Haizel played a major role in the Pioneers trips to the NCAA Tournament in 1984 and 1986. In 1986, Oakland was defeated in the national championship final by Seattle Pacific, 4-1.
Sixteen years after his OU career ended, Haizel is still holds the Oakland single-season record with his 19 assists during the 1985 season. Haizel also holds the number two spot with 16 assists in 1986. In the career record book, the soccer standout ranks second with 42 assists throughout his three years. Haizel scored 79 career points after scoring 22 goals during his career. Haizel graduated in 1986 and returned to his native country Liberia. Haizel continues to reside in Monrovia, Liberia and coaches soccer in the men's premier league of Liberia. |
