ELMHURST, Ill. - Oakland University's Jakob Ziegler and Michael Coriasso were each named to the All-Summit League first team, while Phil Gieseker was selected to the second team as The Summit League Men's Golf All-League teams were announced on Friday.

"I am very pleased with the way the season has gone so far and looking at the all-league list you can understand why," said OU coach Brian Costello. "These three guys have been the anchors of this team and keep us in contention every time we tee it up. Having two sophomores and a junior on the all-league team really puts pressure on us to win a championship, which I think is a good thing."

Ziegler, a native of Berlin, Germany, led the league with a scoring average of 72.25. He won the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate (Sept. 5-6) and finished runner-up in his very next tournament at the John Dallio Memorial (Sept. 25-26) en route to being named The Summit League Athlete of the Month. He broke the single-season school record with 12 rounds under par, surging past the old record of 10 held by Brian Stuard (2004-05) and Jon Pauli (2005-06).

"Jakob is a tireless worker and it shows," said Costello. "He certainly deserves this honor and has had a remarkable sophomore season. His best golf is still to come and that is an exciting prospect."

Coriasso, a native of Grand Blanc, Mich., carries the league's third-best scoring average at 73.33. He won his first collegiate tournament this past Tuesday at the Battle at the Warren, hosted by Notre Dame, after shooting 67 (-4) and was named The Summit League Player of the Week. Coriasso is a two-time all-league performer for the Golden Grizzlies and has five top-15 finishes this season.

"I am very happy for Michael for making the first team this year," said Costello. "He was very close last year and I think that motivated him. He has been our most consistent scorer since he arrived here at OU."

Gieseker holds the top scoring average of all the newcomers in The Summit League this season at 74.14. A native of Saline, Mich., Gieseker has three top-15 finishes and a pair of top-five performances. He shot a season-low 66 (-5) in the final round of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate (Oct. 19) which stands tied for second in school history.

"Adding Phil this year has made us the team we are today," said Costello. "He gives us consistency that we really needed in the three spot. I look for big things out of him over the course of the next two years."

It is just the second time that OU placed three players on the all-league team since moving Division I (2003) and the first time the Golden Grizzlies have had two players on the all-league first team. Oakland is coming off a second-place finish at Notre Dame this past Tuesday and is hitting their stride as the championship approaches this Monday and Tuesday.

Oakland enters The Summit League Championship (April 18-19) as the No. 3 seed and will fight for its first-ever league title since moving in to the league in 1999-00. The Golden Grizzlies will begin play on Monday at the Primm Valley Desert Course in Primm, Nev. on Monday morning, with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. ET. Live scoring will be kept on OUgrizzlies.com.
