Oakland Picked Third in Preseason Summit League Poll|

ELMHURST, Ill. - Oakland earned 310 points and was picked to finish third in The Summit League Men's Basketball Preseason Poll, announced by the league office on Wednesday night. The poll is voted on by the league's nine head coaches, media and athletic communications directors. South Dakota State received 30 of 31 first-place votes and is the overwhelming favorite to win the league.
North Dakota State received the other first-place vote and earned 321 points in the No. 2 spot. The Bison were followed by OU, Western Illinois (274), IUPUI (193), Fort Wayne (191), Kansas City (120), South Dakota (108) and newcomer Omaha (64).
OU's Travis Bader (1st team) and Drew Valentine (2nd team) were selected to the preseason all-league teams. Bader, a redshirt junior from Okemos, Mich., led the league with 124 threes made last season, second-most in the country. Valentine, a senior from Lansing, Mich., posted four double-doubles and ranked third in The Summit League with 7.1 rebounds per game.
SDSU's Nate Wolters was selected as the preseason player of the year. Wolters averaged 21.2 points, 5.9 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game last season. Joining Bader and Wolters on the first team was NDSU's Taylor Braun, WIU's Ceola Clark III, IPFW's Frank Gaines and WIU's Terell Parks.
The second team consists of Valentine, NDSU's Lawrence Alexander and Marshall Bjorklund, IUPUI's Ian Chiles and SDSU's Jordan Dykstra. The Summit League finished last season at an all-time best No. 16 position in Collegiate Basketball News RPI ratings after peaking as high as No. 11 midseason. A record five league schools competed in postseason play a year ago, with the Golden Grizzlies advancing to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament Final Four, setting a new league record with three postseason wins.
