ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland hosted its 12th Midnight Madness event, Grizz Madnezz this past Friday night. Over 1,500 fans came and watched as the Golden Grizzly players ran their layup lines and threw down some nifty dunks.

"This is the 12th year of this event and it was quite an evening," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "As far as basketball goes we are excited to go."

The women's basketball team will begin their season on Oct. 29 in an exhibition against Western Ontario at 2:30 p.m. The men's team will begin its season in an exhibition against Marygrove on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.

"I was excited to see all the fans, particularly the student section so fired up for the start of the college basketball season," said women's coach Beckie Francis. "Crowds always pump up our team. We love our feisty 'Grizz Gang' student section, our vibrant and talented pep band and our loud cheer and dance teams. It surely produces an atmosphere that gives us a home court advantage and that's huge. Thank you to all who came to support the Golden Grizzlies and to those who organized and sponsored Grizz Madnezz!"
