blank Scott Bittinger![]()
The rise of Oakland University's men's basketball program from league also-ran to perennial GLIAC contender in the mid to late 1980's is tied into the arrival on campus of Scott Bittinger, the first men's basketball All-American in school history. Scott is also the first Pioneer to have his jersey retired. Scott earned All-America honors from Basketball Times after his senior year, 1988. He also earned All-GLIAC honors for the second straight year, was selected to the All-Region Team, and was voted GLIAC Player of the Year that season. Those honors aren't surprising when you consider that he set OU single-season records for field goals made, free throws made and total points, as well as the GLIAC record for points in a season. Scott, who led OU to its first 20-win season in 1987, is in the top five in eight different career categories, including total points, where he is fourth with 1,806. He also holds the school mark for consecutive free throws made, canning 35 straight during the 1987-88 campaign. A two-time Academic All-GLIAC honoree, Scott received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Oakland in 1988. He is currently employed as a cost accountant with ITT Automotive, and recently completed his Master's in Business Administration from Wayne State. Scott and his wife, Andrea, live in Clawson with their son, Jacob. |
