Aug. 1, 2012 By winning 21 of the final 29 regular season games, the OU baseball team paced itself to a record-setting season in 2012. Summit League Coach of the Year John Muscachio led his team to a school-best 15-6 Summit League record and a second place finish in league play and took the team to The Summit League Championship for the second time in the past three years. The success of this season will continue to pay dividends for OU, as the Golden Grizzlies earned the right to host the 2013 Summit League Baseball Championship. 2012 Season Highlights ▪ Tim Ryan became the school leader in career stolen bases (83), games played (207) and at-bats (766) ▪ Ryan also set the school record for runs in a season (56) and at-bats in a season (212) ▪ Hayden Fox was taken by the Miami Marlins in the MLB Draft, becoming the sixth player out of Oakland to be drafted ▪ John Musachio earned his 100th win as head coach at Oakland ▪ The Golden Grizzlies tied school-best finishes of second place in the regular season and third in the Summit League Championship ▪ Russell Luxton set the school single-season record with 10 saves, leading all pitchers in The Summit League
▪ The Black and Gold went 16-2 at home this season ▪ The Golden Grizzlies surpassed the 750 win mark in program history ▪ The Golden Grizzlies did not lose any Summit League series during the year for the first time in school history ▪ Gorecki led all Summit League pitchers with a 1.21 ERA in league games and had a stretch of 24 consecutive innings pitched without allowing an earned run ▪ Tim Ryan became the only player in school history with over 200 hits, 80 stolen bases and 150 runs scored in a career ▪ The Golden Grizzlies shutout Oral Roberts and split the regular season series against the Golden Eagles to snap ORU’s nation-leading streak of 48 consecutive home league-series victories
