Three Student-Athletes Join OU Baseball Program
April 17, 2009
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Three student-athletes will join the Oakland University baseball program beginning in the 2009-10 school year, head coach John Musachio announced on Friday. Kyle Bobolts, Todd Dunham, and Jacob Richardson will all compete for the Golden Grizzlies in the 2010 season.
"We have very young but talented offensive unit," said Musachio. "What these young men bring to the program in speed, power, and toughness, they should play key roles in this program right away."
Bobolts, a middle infielder from Grand Rapids, Mich., prepped at Thornapple Kellogg High School. A second-team all-state selection as a junior, Bobolts has hit over .400 each year of high school. "He's a tough, gritty kid," said Musachio. "He can really swing the bat, do different things. He's a winner. He's going to be a good, solid addition. We expect him to be competing for good, solid playing time as a freshman as well."
Dunham, a shortstop/outfielder from Inverness, Ill., prepped at William Fremd High School. One of the top prospects in the state of Illinois, Dunham played for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Professional Scout Team, while also being named top prospect three times at different PBR baseball showcases. "Dunham is going to be an impact player immediately for our program," said Musachio. "We anticipate Todd stepping in right away and contributing in a big way, defensively, whether it be in the infield or in the outfield. He is a polished base stealer. We expect big things from him and we expect them right away."
Richardson, an outfielder from Monroe, Mich, prepped at Flat Rock High School. An all-league and all-region selection in both baseball and basketball, Richardson ahs provided a consistent offensive presence in his teams' offensive lineup, hitting for both average and power. "Richardson gives us a big, strong right-handed presence at the plate that we have been lacking," said Musachio. "We think he has a chance to do special things here at Oakland. With us losing as many players as we are offensively, we think Jake has the chance to compete for playing time as well."
