ROCHESTER, Mich. Nolan Jacoby’s three-run home run in the seventh inning propelled Oakland (7-23) to an 11-8 win over Central Michigan (14-19) on Wednesday at the OU Baseball Field. The Golden Grizzlies have now won four of their last six games and are undefeated at home this season.

“Clutch hitting was the difference today, ” said Oakland head coach John Musachio.  “Nolan Jacoby and Aaron Cieslak both had huge two-out hits for us late in the game. I also thought that our bullpen did a really nice job today. It was a day when we knew we were going to throw quite a few guys.”

The Chippewas walked Robby Enslen to get to Jacoby in the seventh inning and he responded by hitting the ball over the fence in right field. CMU rallied for two runs in the top of the eighth, but Aaron Cieslak restored the OU margin with a two out, two-RBI double.

When Oakland got in to trouble in the eighth inning, Russell Luxton (5) came on to strand two runners. He recorded the final five outs of the game to earn his fourth save in a week. Oakland reliever Dan Augustine (1-0) threw a scoreless seventh inning to earn his first win of the season.

After falling behind 3-1, the Golden Grizzlies rallied for four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kyle Bobolts had an RBI-single and OU managed to score five runs on just one hit in the first two frames.  CMU scored three runs in the top of the third inning  to take a 6-5 lead and it remained a one-run game until the seventh.

CMU outhit Oakland 13-8, but the Golden Grizzlies took advantage of eight walks. Jacoby scored three times, while Enslen and Tim Ryan each crossed the plate twice for OU. Eight different batters got a hit for the Golden Grizzlies. OU also used eight different pitchers, who combined for six strikeouts.

Tyler Huntey was 3-for-4 to lead the Chippewas and drove in four runs. Tyler Hall had three hits and an RBI. Central Michigan reliever Matt Trowbridge (3-2) suffered the loss.

The Golden Grizzlies return to action on Friday at the OU Baseball Field against IPFW at 3 p.m. It is the first game of a four-game Summit League weekend series against the Mastodons.
