BOONE, N.C. - Aaron Cieslak went 4-for-4 and had four RBIs, as Oakland (3-19) lost, 13-8, to Appalachian State (20-5) in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Smith Stadium. The second game of the twin bill was suspended in the fifth inning due to inclement weather, with the Golden Grizzlies trailing the Mountaineers 10-3. Play will resume on Sunday at noon and will be followed by the third game of the series.

"I thought our hitters came out and did a great job today against a really good starting pitcher," said Oakland head coach John Musachio. "We felt good about our 7-2 lead, but Appalachian State made some adjustments offensively and our bullpen struggled to throw strikes. That turned the game around, swinging the momentum in their favor and we weren't able to recover."

Game 1
Cieslak went 4-for-4 with three doubles and a home run, while driving in four runs for the Golden Grizzlies in the 13-8 loss. Oakland and Appalachian State combined for 27 hits.

OU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and took a 7-2 advantage when Cieslak hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. However, the game changed in the bottom of the frame, when ASU scored seven runs on six hits to take a 9-7. The Mountaineers added four more runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull away for good.

Cieslak's four hits led OU and Tim Ryan added three more, as the Golden Grizzlies equaled a season high with 12 hits. Appalachian State had 15 hits, led by Brandon Burris' 3-for-3 effort.

Starter Jeff Gorecki (1-4) took the loss for OU, going 4.2 innings and recording three strikeouts. Reliever Jamie Nunn (3-0) was the winner for Appalachian State, picking up three strikeouts over 2.2 innings.

Game 2
Game two featured several weather delays before play was eventually halted due to rain. The game will resume on Sunday at noon in the bottom of the fifth inning with runners on the corners and two outs and OU down 10-3.

Despite facing an early deficit, Oakland rallied in the top of the fourth inning. Ian Yetsko's two-out RBI-single drove in John Estes to tie the game at 3-3.

The momentum didn't stay with Oakland for long though, as the Mountaineers struck for five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. ASU continued to swing the bats well and added two more runs in the fifth.

Yetsko is 2-for-2 to lead an OU squad that has three hits. Meanwhile, Daniel Kassouf and Will Callaway are both  3-for-4 to lead an 11-hit Mountaineer attack.

Play will resume on Sunday as the teams complete game two of the doubleheader. Following the conclusion of that game, the teams will play their regularly-scheduled nine-inning game.
