OXFORD, Miss. - Sophomore center fielder Tim Ryan led the offensive attack with a 2-for-5 performance, driving in one run, but No. 17 Mississippi (6-1) completed the sweep over Oakland University (0-3), 9-3, on Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The Golden Grizzlies were limited to six runs in three games.

"Connor Mielock gave us a great opportunity today with a very strong start," said OU coach John Musachio. "We had a couple of scoring chances early and did not capitalize. Our guys, as always, scrapped and clawed the whole way. A lot of value can be taken from this weekend series."

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Connor Mielock (0-1) tossed three scoreless innings, but was victimized for two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth. Mielock moved over to first base after his pitching duties were over and went 2-for-2 with one run scored.

Picking up the win for Ole Miss was RHP Trent Rothlin (2-0), throwing 5.0 innings, scattering three hits and gave up no runs. Tanner Mathis went 3-for-4, with two runs scored, while Zack Miller continued to be impressive at the plate with three runs batted in, tallying his third double of the season.

The Golden Grizzlies matched the Rebels with 11 hits apiece, but Ole Miss took advantage of its opportunities and that was the difference in the game.

The game began as a pitcher's duel as neither team managed a run in the first three innings. The Rebels broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by David Phillips.

Ole Miss plated four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Alex Yarbrough as the Golden Grizzlies trailed 6-0.

Oakland fell down by a score of 9-0 as the Rebels scored three more runs in the sixth inning, courtesy of a wild pitch and a two-RBI double by Miller.

The Grizzlies broke through with two runs in the seventh inning on a pinch-hit RBI single by freshman Jake Richardson and an RBI single by Ryan as OU trailed by seven, 9-2.

The final run of the game came from the Golden Grizzlies as freshman right fielder Aaron Cieslak tripled down the right-field line and scored on a ground out by senior catcher Brett Geschke.

Oakland will travel to Memphis, Tenn., for a three-game non-conference series with the Memphis Tigers Friday-Sunday, March 5-7. First pitch on Friday is slated for 5 p.m. ET.
