Cross Country Competes at Great Lakes Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Junior Zack Jones finished with a time of 32.31.1 in the 10K race, good for 48th overall and junior Erica D'Angelo helmed the women's effort with a 63rd place finish in the 6K race with a time of 22.42.4 as the Oakland University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Great Lakes Regional Championship in West Lafayette, Ind. The Oakland men's team finished 18th in a field of 28 teams with 484 points and the women's team placed 22nd out of 34 teams with 607 points. Also placing in the top-100 runners for Oakland was junior Mike Craze on the men's side, who finished 96th out of 194 runners with a time of 33.43.5 and redshirted sophomore Sara Lieblein placed 91st out of 227 runners with a 6K time of 23.07.3. Other OU finishers for the men's team were freshman Steven Marcinkowski in 110th (34.07.2), sophomore Brandon Griffin right behind Marcinkowski in 113th (34.11.8), senior Andy Lawrick in 123rd (34.23.1), freshman Kenny Wall in 127th (34.28.2) and freshman Pat Cassady rounding up the Golden Grizzlies in 176th (36.22.7).
For the women's team, the other finishers were sophomore Kelsey Carmean in 129th (23.43.5), junior Kayla Doan in 153rd (24.10.3), senior Stephanie Huber in 171st (24.34.8) and sophomore Sarah Thompson in 187th (24.58.0). Oakland went into today's meet with several strong accolades under its belt. The men's team is ranked 15th in the Great Lakes Region going into today's meet and Jones was named an all-league first team selection after finishing third overall in the Summit League Championship meet with an 8K time of 24.28.3, breaking his own school record. Griffin, Lawrick and Wall earned all-league second-team designations. For the women, D'Angelo and Lieblein were both named all-league second team members. -30-
