Sept. 4, 2010 Complete Results | Photo Gallery ROCHESTER, Mich. -Pat Cassady and Sara Lieblein won their respective races as the Oakland University men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2010 season at the Golden Grizzly Open on Saturday. Due to technical difficulties, complete results of the women's race are currently not available. They will be posted as soon as they have been finalized. "I'm pleased with our performances today," said head coach Paul Rice. "It was a very windy day out on the course and I thought both teams did a good job of battling through it. We had five guys among the top six runners and three of the top four in the women's race. That is a good thing to see, especially at the first meet." On the men's side, which was a 6K race, Cassady ran 19:08 to win the race by over 15 seconds. There was a tight battle for second as Tony Schafer edged Brandon Griffin by 1/1000th of a second. Nathan Ziolke had a strong collegiate debut clocking a 19:30.10 to finish fourth. Round out the top five on the team was Steven Marcinkowski (19:36.10/ 6th). On the women's side, which was a 4K race, Lieblein and Kelsey Carmean went 1-2 for the Golden Grizzlies. Lieblein ran 14:38, edging Carmean by four seconds, to become the sixth women runner in school history to win a race. Rounding out the top five on the team were Autumn Cleverley (15:00/ 4th), Hannah Scherer (15:29/ 10th) and Sarah Thompson (15:31/ 11th). Oakland hits the road, Saturday, Sept. 11, competing at the IPFW Invitational in Fort Wayne, Ind. The meet is scheduled to start at noon. -30-
