Dec. 15, 2012
WINDSOR, Ontario - Niklas Rippon won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.37 and Katelynne Hartman finished second in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet 5.5 inches as a part of the Oakland men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Windsor Lancer Christmas Open Saturday afternoon.
"Today was a nice way for a few of our athletes to get one more meet in right after finals and going into break," said coach Paul Rice. "I was happy with the steps the hurdlers took this week and it was great to see Buddy Becker throw a personal record today. We can definitely be proud of all the accomplishments from the three December meets and this really gives us a lot to be excited about coming back in January."
Buddy Becker earned a mark of 40 feet in the shot put and finished second in the weight throw with a throw of 33 feet 3.5 inches. Kara Lotan finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 43 feet 4 inches, just a foot under a personal best. Nick Bobek earned a sixth-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.03.
The Golden Grizzlies will not be in action again until January when they compete in the Central Michigan Open on Jan. 11 at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track.
