FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Gino Vitella set a new Oakland record in the shot put, throwing 16.91 meters (approx. 55' 5.75") and taking third place as the Oakland men's track team traveled to the Mastodon Opener hosted by IPFW on Dec. 7. The previous record was set by teammate Andrew Stebbins with 52' 10.75" in 2011.
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Serena San Cartier finished .35 behind first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a 8.90 and Karli Keur earned herself a spot in the top-five all time for the mile run when she finished in 5:10 as the Oakland women began their indoor track season at the Eastern Michigan Holiday Meet on Friday, Dec. 6.
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland track and field begins its 2013-14 indoor season this weekend when the women travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the Eastern Michigan Quad Meet on Dec. 6 in the Bowen Field House. The men begin their season at IPFW inside the Hilliard Gates Sports Center on Dec. 7.
J.P. Behnke has been promoted to full-time assistant coach for the cross country, track and field programs, announced by Oakland head coach Paul Rice. Behnke has served on the coaching staff for the past seven seasons as a part-time coach.
USTFCCCA All-Academic Honor List
NEW ORLEANS - Oakland's Brittni Hutton earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Asoociation (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Honors for her combined efforts in competition and in the classroom, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Wednesday.
DES MOINES, Iowa - Gino Vitella finished eighth in the shot put, while Michael Cox earned an 11th-place finish in the 10,000m run as both athletes competed in the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Drake University, over the weekend.
