Sept. 27, 2012
ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host their annual Black and Gold and Alumni Meets this Friday and Saturday inside the OU Aquatics Center. The B&G Meet will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Alumni Meet will start at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both meets will be free admission.
The Alumni Meet will feature a battle of national champions as Director of Athletics Tracy Huth will compete against long-time coach Pete Hovland in the 'Duel in the Pool'. The swimming and diving alumni raised over $5,000 for the program so this race could happen. Huth won 13 individual national titles as a swimmer at Oakland and is still the only collegiate swimmer to sweep the 200- and 400-yard individual medley races all four years. Hovland, a five-time individual national champion at Chico State, won four team national titles as a swimmer and coached four straight men's NCAA titles for OU. Huth will swim the 400 IM and Hovland will race in the 400 free.
The Black and Gold Meet is an intrasquad meet that will feature the entire Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams that features ten returning individual Summit League champions from last season. Oakland also returns the three-time Summit League Men's Swimmer of the Year Anders Jensen and the two-time Women's Swimmer of the Year in Vanessza Balogh.
