YPSILANTI, Mich. - Vanessza Balogh, Alyssa Busch, Anders Jensen, and two men's relay teams all earned NCAA `B' qualifying times as the Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished the final day of action at the Eastern Michigan Invitational at Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Saturday.

"I thought the kids swam well top to bottom as we competed and swam well all day today," said head coach Pete Hovland. "A positive weekend like this can go a long way in setting us up to work hard in the second semester for the conference meet in February. When you get these kinds of results it is very rewarding and beneficial because you can gain a lot of confidence by having a successful mid-season meet"

Balogh earned her second `B' cut of the weekend after finishing second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:18.28. Busch led off the winning 400 medley relay team with a split of 55.16 in the 100-yard backstroke to earn her second `B' cut of the meet, just one hundredth of a second better than the qualifying time.

Jensen also earned his second `B' cut off the season as he finished first in the 100 back with a time of 47.63. The team of Jensen, Tobias Hansen, Alex Aceino and Matyas Keresztes earned NCAA qualifying times in the 200- and 400-yard medley relays with times of 1:29.82 and 3:16.83, respectively. The 400 medley relay time set a pool record.

The women finished first in the EMU Invitational with 1,085 total points beating host Eastern Michigan who finished with 931. Wayne State came in third with 628.5, Ashland University was fourth with 504.5 points and Summit League foe IUPUI finished fifth with 294. Rounding out the standing was Findlay with 152 points.

OU had three individual winners with Sandra Czerska winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.41, Alyssa Vela finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle and Busch touching the wall first in the 100 back with a meet record 55.40. The women won all three relays including the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay while the team of Busch, Johanna Gustafsson, Czerska and Vela won the 400 medley relay with a pool record 3:44.83.

The men finished the meet in second place with 917.5 points, only six points behind EMU who won with 923.5 points. Wayne State finished behind Oakland with 665 points, Ashland finished in fourth with 600 and Ball State was fifth with 393 points. Rounding out the standings were Summit League opponent IUPUI with 168 points and Findlay with 108.

Aceino and Mario Rusnak finished 1-2 in the 100 fly with times of 48.70 and 49.14, respectively, while Jensen and Hansen also finished first and second in the 200 IM with times of 1:49.30, a meet record, and 1:49.36, respectively. Keresztes won the 50 and 200 free with times of 20.74 and 1:39.40, respectively. Tim Montague won his second event of the weekend placing first in the 500 free with a time of 4:30.33.

"This pool has some impressive pool records as they have had a lot of great meets including hosting the MAC Championships, so to have our kids break those records this weekend shows how hard they have worked this year," added Hovland.

The Oakland swimming and diving teams will not be in action until 2012 when the women take on Akron on Jan. 7 at Ocasek Natatorium. Both teams will return to the pool on Jan. 14 as they host Cleveland State and Xavier in the OU Aquatics Center.
