No. 3 Women's Swimming and Diving secures 11 finals berths on day three of Big 12 Championships
Longhorns qualified four swimmers for this evening's 200 freestyle finals.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 3 Texas secured 11 berths for this evening's finals during the day-three preliminary session Friday morning at the 2009 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
Freshman Kathleen Hersey, the UT and conference record holder in the 400 IM, qualified first in the event in 4:12.00. Sophomore Ashleigh McCleery qualified seventh in 4:17.27. Senior Hee-Jin Chang led the Texas qualifiers in the 100 butterfly by qualifying second in 53.54. Senior Jacqueline Martin-Lacey tied for sixth in the preliminary round at 54.57.
Freshman Karlee Bispo will join three teammates in this evening's 200 freestyle finals. Bispo qualified second in 1:45.49 and was followed in fourth by freshman Katie Riefenstahl in 1:46.66. Junior Traci Van Matre qualified sixth in 1:47.56, and junior Susana Escobar qualified secured the last finals berth in 1:47.77.
Sophomore Carlye Ellis led a one-two Texas showing in the 100 breaststroke. Ellis qualified first in 1:01.28, and junior Alexi Spann qualified second in 1:01.74. Riefenstahl qualified first overall in the 100 backstroke in 53.58.
The women's three-meter diving preliminary round begins at 1:30 p.m. Central. Friday's swimming and diving finals begin at 6 p.m. Central. Texas sits in first place and holds a 28-point lead over second-place Texas A&M heading into Friday's finals.
