One of Oakland's top women swimmers of the mid-eighties was Kim Pogue, who earned 20 All-American honors in her four years as a Pioneer. She was a member of three teams that placed in the top 10 at the national championships.

Kim's specialty was the distance freestyle events. She was OU's top swimmer in both the 500 and 1,650 freestyle as a Pioneer. Kim finished in the top ten in both events during all four of her years at Oakland. Her highest placing was fifth inn the 1,650 freestyle as a junior. Her other All-America honors came in the 200 free and with the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relay units. She was a six-time All-American as a freshman and sophomore, and earned five honors as a junior and three as a senior. She is a former school record holder in the 500 and 1,650 free and with the 200 and 800 free relay units.

A two-time team co-captain, Kim earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Oakland, majoring in systems engineering. She is an engineer with Chrysler and plans to marry David Krause this August. Kim continues to swim competitively with the South Oakland Seals masters swimming team. She holds the state record in the 1,650 freestyle and the national record in the 1,000 freestyle for the 25-29 year old age group.
