Eric McIlquham did something at Oakland University
that only a handful of athletes, nationwide, can claim. He was a 26-time All-American and
was a 15-time national individual and relay champion during his four-year career.
McIlquham was a member of three consecutive NCAA runner-up teams and one third-place team.
McIlquham, team captain as a junior and senior, currently
holds or is a part of five OU records...100 butterfly (1992), 200 freestyle relay (1991),
400 freestyle relay (1990), 200 medley relay (1991) and 400 medley relay (1992).
In his four-year career, he was a 12-time NCAA record
holder and his 100 butterfly in 1992 is still current at the NCAA Division II level.
McIlquham was true example of student-athlete
while at OU. He was named Academic All-American in 1991-92 and was twice named the
Academic All-GLIAC team. He was a recipient of a prestigious NCAA $5,000 Postgraduate
Scholarship.
The Dalton, Massachusetts native graduated in 1992 from
Oakland with a degree in psychology. With the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, he earned a
master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Alabama and graduated
in 1994.
McIlquham is currently the head assistant coach at the
University of Virginia. He joined the UVA staff in 1997 following a stint at Alabama.
While at Alabama, he was appointed an assistant Olympic coach for the Egyptian National
Team for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
McIlquham currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia. |
