When the NCAA adopted women's athletics in 1981, Karen Enneking was coming into her prime as a Pioneer swimmer. The timing couldn't have been better for the Dearborn native, who established herself as the Division II top breaststroker in the early 80's.

Enneking was a five-time national champion, winning her crowns in the 50 and 200 yard breaststroke events in 1982 and 1983, and in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1982. The 15-time All-American held five school and four national records during her career. She held both school and national marks in her three championship events, as well as with the 200 medley relay squad. She added a school mark with the 400 medley relay unit. Her national record in the 50 yard breaststroke still stands.

A team co-captain as a junior and tri-captain as a senior, Enneking was Oakland's first female winner of the GLIAC Scholar-Athlete Award in 1984. The graduate of Edsel Ford High School earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a 3.21 GPA.

Karen currently teaches fourth grade in the Dearborn Public School System. She is working toward a Masters degree in Educational Systems Development at Michigan State University. She is also coaching a junior high school girl's swimming team in Dearborn and has coached the Heart of the Hills swim team in Rochester for the past three summers.
