NCAA SELF-STUDY CERTIFICATION

MINUTES OF THE GOVERNANCE SUBCOMMITTEE

November 14, 2002, 2:00 P.M.

Present: Virinder Moudgil, Karen Kukuk, Jack Mehl, John Mills, Gary Parsons, Theresa Rowe, Gary Shepherd, Ronald Sudol, Geoffrey Upward, Tracy Huth, Jane Bentham

The Governance Subcommittee is responsible for:

Operating Principle
1.1            Mission of the Athletics Program and the Institution
                 The subcommittee needs to look at the mission statement of athletics and the mission statement of the
                 university to determine how it fits and answer the self-study items.

1.2            Institutional Control, Presidential Authority and Shared Responsibilities
                 The self-study questions need to be answered as it pertains to the responsibility of the Board and President.

The subcommittee needs to check all points to make sure they are adhered to and in writing and implemented.  The majority of the subcommittee’s task is fact finding and data collection.

Karen will gather information from Board minutes and will flag those referencing athletics.

Ron will gather information regarding the Senate Athletics Committee.

The next meeting of the Governance Subcommittee will be in January, date to be determined.
