Gender Equity Task
and Sub-Committee Meeting December 4, 2002 Absent: Peter Nacy, Glenn McIntosh, Dawn Awbry In this, the second meeting the task sub-committee assigned to Gender Equity met to review the EADA reports from 99-00, 00-01, and 01-02. The tour that was scheduled for this meeting was postponed until December 18th. It was recommended the task committee identify strategies and format to start writing the responses to the Certification. To accomplish this task, it is recommended the committee meet no less than twice a month. In response, the following was indicated · Meetings for winter must be establish – assigned to Terri · Be prepared to add in focus meetings Received at this meeting were the EADA reports from 99-00, 00-01, and 01-02. Tracy Huth, Associate AD, distributed the document. A brief review, highlighting the reports followed. T. Huth will provide the NCAA Equivalency reports for the next meeting. It was also reported that the
information reviewed can be accessed electronically at the website of the Chronicles
of Higher Education. A.
During the overview to the EADA, it is recommended the Gender Equity Sub
Committee consider the following 1. The Three Prong test of time that the OCR uses (p.46, #2) 2. The NCAA looks at history and expansion (program expansion) within 5 yrs. · Softball at OU, for example 3. Get a sense where OU is using the thirteen program areas · Using page 38, answer the four questions for each of the thirteen areas · The Chair of the Equity and Welfare Sub-Committee must determine how far the task committee will take the project (the task committee will someway create a report-but the Chair should determine whether the task committee or the steering committee will create the final report) · When looking at the report, OU is consistent in over ˝ of these. ·
For those area in which OU is not consistent, it is recommended the
committee note the ways that we can improve that area. B. Highlights of the EADA reports · Not that OU spent more on women athletes · OU has gotten better over time · OU has struggled to get women on sports and keep equivalencies § Cross Country § Golf · Head Count Sports (HCS) at OU § Basketball (M & W) § Volleyball § Tennis (W) § Philosophically, are the participation numbers for OU OK when considering the number of women sports offered § 6 men sports § 8 women sports § Consider, does OU need the following § Maximum number for men’s sports § Minimum number for women’s sports § HCS encourages schools to give full grants (max limit set for equivalency values for scholarships At the next meeting we should see
information, if available, from the Title IX facility visit, review the
University of Wyoming Gender Equity Plan, and T. Huth will provide the NCAA
Equivalency reports for the next meeting. Next Task Committee Meeting: Wednesday,
