NCAA SELF-STUDY CERTIFICATION

MINUTES OF THE EQUITY AND WELFARE SUBCOMMITTEE

APRIL 15, 2003, 1:00 P.M.

Present:          Glenn McIntosh, Pete Hovland, Kathy Rowley, Brian Bouwman, Tom Ford, Amy Hirschman, Karen Lloyd, Teri Eudy, Gloria Sosa, Jane Bentham

Amy Hirschman, Gender Issues - The first version of their report has been proofed and corrected and is being reviewed by the Title IX Committee.  If that committee has any questions, the sub subcommittee will address those questions at the sub subcommittee meeting on Monday.  After the meeting on Monday, the sub subcommittee will proceed with their written plan.

Karen Lloyd, Sportsmanship and Welfare - The sub subcommittee has completed their report.  They reported that more documentation needs to be available to students informing them of resources and where to obtain services.  They also recommended having a female doctor for student-athletes, a policy concerning sexual orientation and a grievance appeal process.

Gloria Sosa, Minority Issues - Their report needs some adjustments in the areas of personnel and recruitment and will get the draft to Glenn this week.

Glenn McIntosh will put all three sub subcommittee reports together and asked for volunteers for a reading team.  Dawn Aubry, Karen Lloyd, Kathy Rowley, Gloria Sosa, Teri Eudy, Amy Hirschman along with Glenn will be the team.  The total subcommittee will meet after the reading team has finished.
