NCAA SELF-STUDY CERTIFICATION

MINUTES OF THE EQUITY AND WELFARE SUBCOMMITTEE

MARCH 21, 2003, 1:00 P.M.

Present:          Glenn McIntosh, Pierre Dukes, Thomas Ford, Amy Hirschman, Karen Lloyd, Peter Nacy, Gloria Sosa, Jane Bentham

Glenn McIntosh updated the committee on the decision of the Steering Committee to produce a video tape to distribute to the campus cable network and also to present forums for input from the campus and community.  Also, presentations will be delivered to the Senate, Student Congress, University Congress, etc.  A fall Town Hall forum will be held for students, faculty and staff to ask any questions.  Also, the number of web site hits was discussed.

Also, at the Steering Committee the question of Random Sampling was discussed.  Gloria Sosa mentioned in their part of the self-study, the question of random sampling came up and they will address it in their report.

The draft reports of the sub subcommittees should be sent to Glenn so that he can he can draft a complete report to send to Jack Mehl and Tracy Huth for their input.

Karen Lloyd, Welfare and Sportsmanship Issues, reported that the target areas that are missing in their report should be completed by Monday or Tuesday or next week.  They discovered two areas that are not addressed; grievance appeal and sexual orientation needs to be streamlined or clarified.

Amy Hirschman, Gender Issues, reported that their committee has another meeting on Monday and will present the fourth part of their report.  They are formalizing the plans of their report.

Gloria Sosa, Minority Issues, reported they are looking at areas for improvement in their plan report and will get the information to Glenn.
