- Men's basketball player Johnathon Jones led the nation in assists per game with 8.1, breaking a Summit League single-season record with 290. Jones is the first NCAA statistical champion and became just the second OU player to garner CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major All-America accolades.
- Women's basketball player Jessica Pike tabbed Division I-AAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
- Men's track and field athlete Jeff Decator wins 100-meter dash, becoming just the second-ever OU competitor at NCAA Mideast Regional Championship.
- Oakland led the fall with 65 Academic All-Summit League selections and led the winter/spring with 183 honorees. The Golden Grizzlies had a total of 208 selections, tops in the league.
- Women's golf receives public recognition award from NCAA after posting a perfect score of 1000 in Academic Progress Report (APR).
- Track and Field had a program-best total of 15 all-league awards at indoor and outdoor championships. OU went on to score the most points ever at the outdoor meet for both men and women.
- Men's cross country posted a runner-up finish at the league championship for the third consecutive year, after winning its second title in 2005.
- Men's and Women's Indoor Outdoor Track added.
- Men's track and field athlete Mike Craze becomes first league champion in school history by winning 3,000-meter Steeplechase, also becoming first outdoor track and field competitor to make NCAA Regionals.

- Rawle Marshall (men's basketball) signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA.
- Mike Helms (men's basketball) became Oakland's first men's basketball player to earn Division I All-America recognition by the Associated Press with his honorable mention selection

- Two baseball players were chosen in the Major League Baseball draft - Jared Thomas (11th round) and David Viane (20th round).
- Anita Rapp (Norway/women's soccer) and Haitham Hassan (Egypt/men's swimming) compete at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Norway beat the USA 3-2 to win the gold making Rapp the first OU athlete to win a gold medal.
- Erick Swanson (baseball) was chosen in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball draft.
