From 1981 to 2008, Gary Parsons roamed the sidelines at Oakland University as the school's head men's soccer coach. Over the course of his 28-year career, Parsons led OU to 27 winning seasons, finishing his career with 363 wins, 138 losses and 58 ties. His teams captured seven Summit League championships in 10 years in the league and appeared in 17 NCAA tournaments, seven Final Fours, and three national runner-up finishes. He is the all-time winningest coach in Summit League history, finishing his career with a 38-15-3 league record. During Parsons' tenure at OU, Oakland players earned All-Region honors 78 times, All-Conference honors 66 times, All-America honors 16 times, League Player of the Year six times, and nine OU players participated in the Senior Bowl. The success of Parsons' players was not limited to the field, as OU players earned Academic All-District honors four times, Scholar All-American accolades three times, and Scholar-Athlete All-Region and Academic All-America honors twice. Parsons retired from college coaching after one of the finest seasons of his career, guiding the Golden Grizzlies to a Division I program record 14 wins, being selected to their fourth Division I Tournament and hosting their first Division I Tournament game against Ohio State University. |
