Dr. Jurist is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who has specialized fellowship training in Sports Medicine and enters his first season as Team Physician for Oakland Athletics. While focusing primarily on problems of the shoulder and knee, Dr. Jurist treats most of the injuries that athletes and active individuals encounter at the Performance Orthopedics office in Bingham Farms. He routinely sees patients of all ages from the adolescent to the mature athlete. Dr. Jurist is on the medical staff of William Beaumont Hospital at Royal Oak. He also has an appointment as an Assistant Professor at the new Oakland University School of Medicine. Dr. Jurist is an oral board examiner for The American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, which is the only certifying organization for all orthopedic surgeons in the United States. As a clinical instructor at Beaumont Hospital, Dr. Jurist is involved in the training of orthopedic surgery residents, medical students, physician's assistants, nurses and athletic trainers. Over the course of his career, Dr. Jurist has a long list of original research publications and scientific presentations in the field of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine some of which have won very prestigious awards. Performance Orthopedics is the private practice office of Dr. Jurist and his partner, Dr. Joe Guettler. The practice is devoted to providing high quality care to injured athletes of all ages. Seeing patients timely and patient satisfaction are key priorities at Performance Orthopedics. In addition, all patients with disorders of the shoulder and knee are seen and treated with the most sophisticated and state of the art care. Many of the problems seen are referred by other orthopedic surgeons from around the state of Michigan for definitive treatment due to the complex nature of some of these problems. Surgeries performed include ligament reconstructions, replacement of the shoulder and knee, cartilage injuries of the knee, arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, tendon problems such as Achilles problems, rotator cuff injuries and elbow tendonitis. Over the last few years, Dr. Jurist has been a pioneer in the treatment of tendonitis without cortisone or surgery. Office injections of a new biologic means of treating tendonitis called PRP (platelet rich plasma) offers patients a virtually risk free biologic treatment with a very high success rate. Throughout his career Dr. Jurist has provided direct care to athletes at all levels from high school to the professional levels. This included a consultant role with Dr. Guettler in caring for the athletes at Oakland University. That relationship has been strengthened and Performance Orthopedics is proud to serve as the team physicians for Oakland providing direct care to the student-athletes and faculty of Oakland University. |
