Matt Herrema will begins his second year as an athletic trainer at Oakland University, where he recently accepted the role of associate athletic trainer. Herema will primarily be working with men's soccer, women's basketball and baseball.

Prior to Oakland, Herrema gained experience working as a graduate assistant at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J. During his time working there he was able to gain clinical experience working with the New York Jets of the National Football League, as well as working with the Rutgers University Lacrosse team.

Herrema is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and is also National Safety Council First Aid certified, American Red Cross certified in both CPR and AED use. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association (EATA) and the Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ).

A 2007 graduate of Calvin College with a degree in Physical Education - Exercise Science, Herrema completed his master's in Athletic Training at Seton Hall in 2010.
