Sam Brown joined the Oakland Strength and Conditioning program in 2011. He is responsible for the development, implementation, progression, and oversight of comprehensive sports-specific strength and conditioning programs for men's basketball, women's basketball, men's track and field, and women's track and field teams. He also oversees the maintenance of equipment to ensure that safety standards are met within the training facility. Brown received his B.A. of Psychology from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he was also a four-year letterwinner for football. After graduating in 2005 he became the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports at VMI. He spent two years at VMI before accepting a graduate assistant position at Virginia Tech where he worked with football, men's and women's basketball, and volleyball. He received a master's degree in health and physical education from Virginia Tech in 2009. He was an assistant strength coach at Ohio from 2009-11 where he oversaw baseball, softball, wrestling, hockey, and assisted with the football program. Brown is certified by the Collegiate Strength Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) as well as holding USAW-L1SP, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
