Team Policies
- Must be a full time student of Oakland University for Fall and Winter semester.
- Must be prepared to commit as a team member for, but not limited to, two four month semesters.
- Must be prepared to practice 2-3 times a week, which may include 1 off-campus technique class.
- Practice schedules are subject to change each year and additional practices will be added prior to competitions. Practices may increase to 4-5 times a week before a competition. All members will be aware of practices at least 1 month in advance. Monthly calendars will be passed out early in the season and updated accordingly.
- Members are expected to behave professionally. Misconduct of any kind is prohibited. Use of drugs, alcohol, or any illegal substance while wearing a dance team uniform or athletic wear will result in immediate dismissal.
- All members will fundraise. If any fundraising is not completed the member will be responsible for the money not raised.
- If a member leaves the team during the season, either voluntarily or otherwise, a member is obligated to do so in person. At that time, member must turn in uniform and equipment. If dismissed from the team, that member has 5 days to turn in their uniform and equipment. If member fails to do so, the student's account will be billed accordingly. Member will not be able to graduate until balance is paid.
- Members must always respect themselves, other team members, coach, assistant coach, captains, other athletes, and Oakland University.
- Members are required to maintain at least a 2.0 G.P.A. to remain on the team. Members must turn in a copy of report cards to coach by designated deadline.
- Members must build and develop school spirit. No member will wear clothing representing other Universities. From this point on you will only represent Oakland University and your dance team.
- All team conversations, interactions, and personal events are strictly confidential. Failure to respect confidentiality will result in dismissal.
- Members must continue to keep themselves in a healthy physical shape. Members must appear and perform like athletes with a positive attitude. Members will be expected to look professional for each game and event.
- Members will be expected to follow a strict training program, which may involve required technique classes and physicals.
- Member making the commitment to the dance team will understand that any other commitment made to organizations, sororities, etc. after making the dance team will not conflict with the dance team. Any lack of commitment will result in member reimbursing dance team for money invested in them (i.e. cost of uniform) while on the team. Some issues will be taken into consideration.
- No member is allowed to be on any other professional dance team during our dance season (early August-mid March). Any attempt to try-out for another team while you are a member of the dance team at Oakland University will result in immediate dismissal and reimbursement of any moneys spent on member during the time on the dance team.
- Members must accept the possibility that they may not make the Nationals dance team. Member also acknowledges that she is not on the dance team strictly to go to Nationals. They are aware of all of other responsibilities of the dance team (fundraising, camp, games, practices, etc.) and that is why they are on the team.
- If a member chooses to leave the dance team before camp, they are responsible to reimburse the University for any expenses (camp deposit and clothing). Members acknowledge the possibility that they may be responsible to reimburse the University for any moneys spent on them during their time on the team if they leave before the end of the season.
- Social media (i.e. facebook, twitter, etc.) is to be used appropriately. Members that portray a negative image of them selves or the team will be considered for dismissal.
- Fraternizing with players, officials or members of the opposing team is NOT a part of the dance team image and could likely result in dismissal from the team.
- Members must continue to keep themselves in a healthy physical shape. Members must appear and perform like athletes with a positive attitude. Members will be expected to look and act professional for every game and event. Failure to do so will result in not performing and/or dismissal from the team.
- All communications regarding the team should be between dancer and coach. Concerns of a parent of a dancer will not be considered. Issues should be addressed internally i.e. communication with athletics will not be considered if an attempt for resolve internally has not occurred.
