Scott MacDonald was named Director of Athletic Media Relations on Monday, Sept. 24, 2007. MacDonald, who received a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Oakland in 2002, comes to OU from Georgia Tech, where he served as assistant sports information director for four years.

“Scott’s background and obvious passion for Oakland University athletics made him an obvious choice for sports information director,” said Tracy Huth, interim athletic director.  “He has extensive experience at outstanding institutions in a variety of college sports, and we look forward to having him as a key part of our team as we get set to begin another successful Golden Grizzlies basketball season.”

While at Georgia Tech, MacDonald served as the primary contact for football, men's and women's swimming and diving and softball. He also assisted in two NCAA Regionals and a NCAA Final Four at the Georgia Dome. The softball team went to four consecutive NCAA Regional tournaments and the football team made four consecutive bowl appearances, including a Gator Bowl invitation in 2006. He also served as the football and basketball game program editor during his tenure. MacDonald was also the Media Director for the 2006 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

Prior to working at Tech, MacDonald served as an athletic communications assistant at the University of North Carolina. He was the primary contact for men's and women's cross country, wrestling and softball. MacDonald also assisted with football and men's basketball, serving as the football game program editor for the Tar Heels. While at UNC, the softball team advanced to the NCAA Regional tournament in Fresno, Calif., and the wrestling team and cross country teams posted top 25 finishes.

A native of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., MacDonald worked in the sports information office at Oakland University for three years as a graduate assistant. He served as the primary contact for women's basketball, baseball, softball and women's soccer. The Golden Grizzlies advanced to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament in 2002, serving as the No. 16 seed in Nashville, Tenn., against top-seeded Vanderbilt.

During his baseball career at Henry Ford Community College (1994-95) and St. Andrews Presbyterian College (1996-98), MacDonald garnered all-league and all-region honors and finished with eight or more wins on the hill in two consecutive seasons (1996, '97). He was named Pitcher of the Year while at St. Andrews after the '97 baseball season after finishing in the top 20 in the nation in strikeouts and earned run average. He also lettered for two seasons in golf at St. Andrews. MacDonald received his bachelor's degree in physical education and sport in '99.

A Lahser High School graduate in 1994, MacDonald was named Athlete of the Year after his senior season and earned nine varsity letters. He garnered all-state honors in hockey, becoming just the second player in school history to earn such honors. He finished 14th at the MHSAA Class A Boys Golf State Championship, leading the Knights to a third-place finish, earning all-league and all-district honors. MacDonald was also an all-league, all-district and all-area baseball player in two consecutive seasons.

While earning his master's degree at Oakland, MacDonald served as the head boys varsity golf coach at Andover High School. He led the Barons to their first regional appearance in three seasons and had two players garner all-league honors.
