Joe Impellizzeri is in his first year as the Associate Director of Athletics for Development at Oakland University.  Impellizzeri is responsible for securing private gifts and managing donor relations.

Before joining Oakland, Impellizzeri spent five years as a Director of Resource Development for the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.  Most recently, Impellizzeri was responsible for raising nearly $8 million to fully fund the start-up and first three years of operations of United Way 2-1-1.  During his tenure at United Way Impellizzeri also increased the overall revenue from leadership and major gifts five percent, from $12.9 million to $13.5 million.

Prior to his time at United Way, Impellizzeri spent four years at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, the last two as the Vice President for External Relations, leading a fundraising effort that resulted in a record $2.96 million in 2001.

A native of Fraser, Michigan, Impellizzeri earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Olivet College in 1984.  While at Olivet, Impellizzeri was a three-year member of the Comets’ baseball team.  In 1995, Impellizzeri earned a master’s in sports management and sports administration from Ohio State University.  Impellizzeri resides in Macomb Township, Michigan with his wife Heidi and their three daughters, Audrey, Katherine and Sarah.
