A longtime member of the Oakland
University family, Tracy Huth was appointed Oakland’s Director
of Athletics in October 2007. Prior to his newest appointment, Huth was
interim AD for the past season and has served as OU’s Senior Associate
AD since 2005, supervising the department’s operations. Prior to that he
served more than eight years as an Associate AD and Assistant AD with
primary responsibilities to program supervision, student-athlete
services and compliance. In his position as Interim AD, Huth also has
oversight of the men’s and women’s basketball programs. Huth started his
career at Oakland in 1985 as an assistant coach with the men’s swimming
and diving program and as the head coach of the Oakland Live Y’ers swim
team. In 1987, he began an 11-year stint as the head coach of OU’s
women’s swimming and diving program. Huth stepped down from this
position in 1998 to focus on his position as Assistant AD and Oakland’s
move to Division I.
In March 2006 Huth was appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Swimming & Diving Committee. He has also served on the NCAA’s Academic/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet (2001-05) and, as the tournament manager for the 2006 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. Oakland University was the host institution for 1st & 2nd Round games at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Huth is currently a member of The Summit League Joint Council, serving as a member of the league’s Budget Committee, Competition Committee and, as chair of the Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Sport Committee. While a head coach at Oakland, Huth established the OU Women’s Swimming & Diving team as the premier program in the country at the Division II level. Under his guidance, Oakland finished in the top three nationally for nine straight seasons, including five consecutive national championships and three straight second-place finishes from 1990 – 1997. He was named the NCAA Division II Coach of the Year three times for his team’s accomplishments. During his days as a student-athlete member of the men’s swimming program at Oakland, the Yakima, Washington native earned a rare 24 All-America honors, claiming 13 individual national championships. He won the 200 and 400 Individual Medley for four consecutive years and was selected the NCAA Division II Swimmer of the Year three times. In 2002 Huth had the unique honor of being selected to the Oakland University Lepley Hall of Honor for a second time. He is the only member to be enshrined twice. Originally named to the Hall in 1990 for his swimming accomplishments as a student-athlete, his second honor was in recognition of his coaching accomplishments. Huth graduated from Oakland in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. In 1996, he earned his master’s of education from Wayne State University. He currently resides in Clarkston and has two children, Kara and Chance. |
